The Ford Escape is one of Ford’s early crossover models, first released for the 2001 model year. It is produced as a compact crossover SUV, with the latest model weighing in at just over 3,200 pounds. The Escape was jointly developed with Mazda, paving the way for the release of the Mazda Tribute. Ford’s Mercury division also produced the Mariner, which was based on the Escape’s design. Sales of the Ford Escape have been strong since its debut, ranging from 137,000 to 308,000 units sold annually in the US.
Details of the 2025 Ford Escape were announced in the first half of 2024, with a target release date slated in the fall. Trim levels for the 2025 model include the base Active, ST-Line, ST-Line Select, ST-Line Elite, and the line-topping Platinum. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options are available. The 2025 Escape uses the same standard 1.5-liter intercooled turbo I3 engine that outputs 180 hp and 199 pound-feet of torque. And if you’re a fan of hybrid cars, then the Escape Hybrid might be for you, which provides a combined 192 hp. A plug-in hybrid variant of the Escape enhances power to 210 hp. Ford also offers a compact hybrid pickup truck, the Ford Maverick, which produces a total output of 191 hp.
Do Ford Escapes Get Good Gas Mileage?
Fuel economy EPA ratings for the 2024 Ford Escape are 30 mpg combined, 27 mpg city, and 34 mpg highway. These are solid numbers for a modern gas-powered crossover. The PHEV variant is rated for 39 mpg combined, which should make hybrid car enthusiasts happy.
